The Female Super League (FSL) is officially launching its highly anticipated inaugural season this weekend, marking a historic moment for youth female ice hockey in Western Canada. Featuring two divisions—14U and 12U—the league includes a total of 14 teams. The FSL’s 14U division is made up of nine teams from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, while the 12U division fields five teams from BC and Alberta.
From September 13th to 15th, 2024, 12 of the league's teams will take the ice in five cities: Langley, Abbotsford, Edmonton, Cochrane, and Lloydminster. A groundbreaking feature of the 14U division is the introduction of progressive body checking, a first-of-its-kind development in female youth hockey aimed at enhancing competitiveness and physicality in a safe, structured environment. The games will be officiated using a four-person refereeing system to ensure high standards of play and safety, setting a new bar for officiating in youth female hockey.
Fans and families across the region are excited as the league promises to bring greater exposure to female athletes in the sport. Most of the games this season will be broadcast live on Silent Ice TV (https://www.silenticetv.com/). This weekend’s games are sure to set the tone for a competitive season, with teams eager to hit the ice and showcase their talent.
The FSL is actively engaging with its growing fanbase on social media, offering live updates and exclusive content on Instagram (@femalesuperleague) and X (@femsuperleague). As the league continues to grow, it also welcomes inquiries about future expansion opportunities.
