The Jr. Rustlers used a dominant second period and a spectacular special teams performance to secure a decisive 4-1 win over Phantoms Female Hockey. The game was a story of momentum swings, with the Phantoms striking first on the power play before the Rustlers took control with relentless pressure and a hat trick from Addison Boulianne.
The Phantoms opened the scoring late in the first period, capitalizing on a Rustlers penalty. With just over four minutes remaining, Ruby Hurd, assisted by Sierra Douglas and Bryelle Denis, found the back of the net to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. The Rustlers, however, weathered a trio of first-period penalties and emerged for the middle frame with renewed energy. They outshot the Phantoms 11-5 in the second period, and their pressure paid off. Addison Boulianne, wearing number 8, tied the game with an even-strength marker, assisted by Alanna Schwartz. The Rustlers then took the lead for good when Lily Arguin, from Payton Boulianne and Maya Macnab, scored what would stand as the game-winning goal with just over two minutes left in the period.
The third period became a showcase for the Rustlers' penalty kill and Addison Boulianne's finishing touch. Despite taking a bench minor for too many men and a boarding penalty to Abigail Herle, the Rustlers' shorthanded unit stole the show. Boulianne completed her hat trick with two shorthanded goals in a span of just 53 seconds, both assisted by Harper Clark. The first came with the Rustlers killing a major penalty to Hayze Bensmiller, and the second followed shortly after, effectively sealing the game. The Phantoms struggled to solve the Rustlers' defensive structure and, despite a late boarding penalty of their own to Ruby Hurd, could not mount a comeback. The Rustlers' ability to score at even strength, on the power play, and most impressively, shorthanded, proved the difference in a comprehensive team victory.
